After a successful collaboration on numerous projects, Bliss Global Building Contracting & Technical Services to undertake a transformative renovation of their third-floor office space in Portland. Bliss Global Building Contracting & Technical Services embarked on a bold endeavor to optimize functionality while enhancing comfort and aesthetic appeal.
The pre-renovation third floor had an inefficient layout that included an underutilized reception desk, a closed-off kitchen, a cramped conference room, and a minuscule lounge area with only two unremarkable chairs. This peculiar arrangement resulted in significant wasted space and left a lackluster impression on visitors.
In response, Bliss Global Building Contracting & Technical Services embarked on a creative reimagining of the central reception area, emphasizing the architectural charm of exposed wood trusses by strategically incorporating lighting and an interior framework that seamlessly complemented the existing truss work. They dismantled the kitchen enclosure, replacing it with a striking 20-foot-long island featuring a hand-troweled milestone countertop, creating an eye-catching centerpiece. An existing office was transformed into an inviting open lounge, featuring a sun-soaked south-facing window that bathes the new kitchen area in natural light. These revamped spaces, the island, and the lounge, have since become favored settings for informal meetings and company gatherings.
To further enhance the openness and connectivity of the space, the conference room was reimagined with the addition of a glass curtain wall, seamlessly merging it with the central area. The newly constructed offices along a short corridor at the periphery of the floor exude a sense of spaciousness, thanks to expansive window walls and the absence of a dropped ceiling.
The incorporation of reclaimed Douglas fir for wall paneling and cabinets perfectly complements the existing wood trusses, creating a harmonious blend of materials.
